SPOILERS: Monica Rambeau had a big moment in the latest episode of “WandaVision.”The episode almost acted as Rambeau’s origin story and she now seems to have superpowers. In the comics, Rambeau is also known as the superhero Photon/Spectrum.

Monica Rambeau just had a pretty special moment in the latest episode of “WandaVision.” Teyonah Parris’ character has been a key part of the show so far, but she now looks to be an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward following episode seven’s reveal.

Warning: Spoilers. Fans have been speculating for a while now that Monica Rambeau could gain superpowers as a result of going in and out of Wanda’s Westview, which is encircled by energy boundaries. In the comics, Rambeau is also known as superhero Photon/Pulsar, and, more recently, Spectrum. She gained her powers after being hit by extradimensional energy and is known as the second Captain Marvel.

Up until episode seven, Rambeau was a captain for S.W.O.R.D. trying to help Agent Jimmy Woo ( Randall Park ) and S.W.O.R.D. acting director Tyler Hayward (Josh Stamberg) figure out what was going on with Westview. Now, however, Rambeau looks to have had her origin story as Photon.

—zach (@civiiswar) February 19, 2021 While in the comics, the extradimensional energy came from an energy disruptor weapon, the energy that hit Rambeau in the show came from the force field surrounding Wanda’s Westview. She has been through the force field a couple of times but after Wanda expanded the radius of Westview in episode six, the walls of energy looked stronger than ever in this latest episode.

They were so strong that Rambeau couldn’t get through with a heavily-armored space vehicle. Instead, she walked through by herself in a trippy sequence where we heard the voices of several key characters including a young Monica, her mother Maria, Nick Fury, and Captain Marvel herself, Carol Danvers.

  1. The voices also spoke about Monica’s mother Maria, and included dialogue from “Captain Marvel” as Monica forced her way through the energy barrier.
  2. The last line in the sequence came from Danvers: “Your mum’s lucky.
  3. When they were handing out kids, they gave her the toughest one.” —Roxy She/Her (@Clexa4life1) February 19, 2021 This gave Monica the strength to push through, and she emerged into Westview with glowing blue eyes and heightened vision.

Monica Rambeau is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, Created by writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita Jr., the character debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 (October 1982). Monica was introduced as the second Captain Marvel, and she gained super powers after being bombarded by extradimensional energy produced by an energy disruptor weapon.

The character joined and eventually became leader of the Avengers for a time. She was also a member of Nextwave and the latest Ultimates team. She has also been known as Photon, Pulsar and beginning in 2013, Spectrum, Akira Akbar portrayed young Monica Rambeau in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Captain Marvel (2019).

Teyonah Parris portrays the adult version of Rambeau in the television miniseries WandaVision (2021) and will also appear in The Marvels (2023).

Did Monica gain powers WandaVision?

What is Monica Rambeau’s superhero origin story in the comics? – One of the most important things to know about Captain Marvel is that for about 40 years, Marvel Comics had to keep publishing a Captain Marvel book or lose the trademark to the name “Captain Marvel.” It’s a long, fascinating story, Image: Sal Buscema/Marvel Comics Created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr., Monica became the second Captain Marvel in 1982. In 1983, she joined the Avengers, becoming the first Black woman to join the team. But in 1996 she conceded the name to Captain Marvel’s son (sort of), and took the name Photon instead — which, in the movies, was her mom’s fighter pilot callsign.

  • For various reasons that are trivial to explain, she’s also gone by the name Pulsar and Spectrum.
  • Her origin story is humdrum as superheroes go: She was blasted by some weird energy and has had powers ever since.
  • But then again, that seems to be exactly what’s happening in WandaVision,
  • From that weird energy, Monica gained the ability to transform herself into various forms of light and energy, which comes with a host of benefits.

Superhuman speed (by traveling as microwave transmissions), invisibility, the ability to fly and phase through objects, and the ability to absorb energy and redirect it as blasts from her hands. She also had a pretty cool white costume. WandaVision won’t be the last we see of Monica.

Is Monica a mutant WandaVision?

Monica Rambeau’s role in the MCU is unclear right now. Following her introduction in 2019’s Captain Marvel, Monica returned to the MCU as an adult (this time played by Teyonah Parris) in WandaVision, She’s one of the key figures in the Disney+ series, and it has already been confirmed that she will return in Captain Marvel 2,

  1. But given her history in the Marvel comics, Monica could very easily continue to play a central role in the MCU even after Captain Marvel 2,
  2. In fact, one Marvel fan theory suggests that WandaVision may have already given Monica Rambeau some surprise superpowers — she just doesn’t know it yet.
  3. Let’s dive in.

How did TV and movies get you through the pandemic? We want to hear from you! Take this quick Inverse survey. Teyonah Parris in WandaVision, Marvel Studios The Theory — WandaVision Episode 5 picks up with Monica after she has been thrown out of Westview.

She spends most of the episode in detective mode — working with Kat Dennings’ Dr. Darcy Lewis and Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo to figure out the truth of what’s going on in the New Jersey town. And for all intents and purposes, Monica seems perfectly fine throughout the episode and relatively unchanged by her time under Wanda’s apparent control.

However, a hint early on in the episode suggests Monica may not be the same as she was before she was sucked into Westview. The moment in question comes around nine minutes into WandaVision Episode 5, when a S.W.O.R.D. medic requests another round of scans and health labs from Monica because her previous ones are blank.

  • Monica refuses to give another blood draw, or waste any more time lying in a hospital bed, and the moment is quickly passed over.
  • 👉 Follow all of Inverse ‘s WandaVision coverage at our WandaVision hub,
  • But WandaVision Episode 5 never goes back and explains what was wrong with Monica’s initial labs.
  • That has led Marvel fans to speculate her body may have been altered by her time in Westview, and that she may even have superpowers now.

A Vision of the Future — Monica has a long and varied history in the Marvel comics. A prominent superhero, she got her powers after being exposed to high levels of extra-dimensional energy, and ever since, has been able to manipulate and wield high quantities of electromagnetic energy.

  1. She’s assumed multiple different aliases over the years, including Photon, Pulsar, and even took on the Captain Marvel mantle at one point, though, she currently goes by Spectrum in the comics.
  2. Given that Monica’s comic book superpowers are energy-based, it’d make sense if her time in Westview in some way resulted in her getting her powers.

WandaVision has already established that the forcefield surrounding Westview is giving off huge levels of cosmic radiation, so it wouldn’t take very much explanation if Monica were to get her powers from it either. It is also possible — as some fans have theorized — that her exposure to Wanda and the forcefield didn’t give Monica her powers, so much as awaken them.

Evan Peters in WandaVision, Marvel Studios Is Monica a Mutant? — Marvel fans have been theorizing for months that WandaVision will, in some way, play a role in introducing mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Those theories have only strengthened/been validated this past week, following WandaVision Episode 5’s inclusion of Evan Peters’ Quicksilver from the Fox X-Men movies.

Some fans theorize Wanda won’t just bring Mutants from other alternate realities into the MCU, they also think Wanda will have a hand in creating the MCU’s Mutants. That has led some fans to speculate that Monica herself may be a mutant in the MCU. Assuming that’s correct, then the reason her labs are blank in WandaVision Episode 5 wouldn’t just be because she has powers now, but also because her mutant genetics have been awakened.

  1. Monica’s not a mutant in the comics, but that may not matter much.
  2. Marvel Studios has always been willing to alter characters’ origins for the MCU, so it’s entirely possible that Parris’ Monica could be a mutant, unlike her comic book counterpart.
  3. Teyonah Parris in WandaVision,
  4. Marvel Studios The Inverse Analysis — WandaVision has yet to really reveal what the long-term effects of the “Westview Anomaly” will be for those who spend time inside of it.

But thanks to that small scene with the S.W.O.R.D. medic in WandaVision Episode 5, it’s clear that Monica has, in some way, been physically affected by her exposure to the town’s energy. Whether or not that means she’s a mutant or has superpowers now — as many fans have theorized — is a mystery for the time being.

What happens to Monica at the end of WandaVision?

Monica Rambeau’s next adventure will be in space, possibly with Nick Fury – Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, Marvel While the show is called WandaVision, it was also slyly and slowly creating Monica Rambeau’s superhero origin story. Because Monica entered the hex, got zapped out of it, and reentered, she’s been changed at an atomic level.

  1. She first displayed powers in episode seven, and in the finale, she uses them again.
  2. Director Hayward, frustrated that his plans to resurrect Vision and turn him into a weapon have gone sideways, opens fire on Billy and Tommy.
  3. To reiterate, Hayward, a grown man, tries to murder two 10-year-olds.
  4. Monica sees this, wants to save them, and ends up taking the bullets (because Hayward fired a gun at two children, more than once!) for them.

Her body flashes a bright yellow, seemingly turning into living energy, and as the bullets pass through her, they fall to the ground. Monica’s powers aren’t really explained. Darcy, who probably would be really great at telling us what’s going on, is barely in the episode.

  • But the comic books can give us some clues.
  • In Marvel’s comics, Monica gets powers after being exposed to and bombarded by cosmic energy,
  • After absorbing this energy into her body, Monica has the power to transform herself into various energy forms.
  • These forms allow her to shoot energy bolts, and they also allow her to zip along at the speed of light.

Monica turning bright yellow and becoming temporarily bulletproof could be the start of these powers.

What did Wanda do to Monica?

She’s got a connection with Wanda. – Aside from everything we’ve seen so far, it’s clear that Wanda and Monica have some deeper connection. Inside The Hex, Wanda is the one who initiated conversation with “Geraldine,” and spoke to her first. She saved Monica’s life when she shot her back out into the real world.

How is Monica Rambeau a Marvel?

Trivia –

Monica Rambeau’s creator, Roger Stern, gradually gave prominence to the character in his long-term run in the Avengers series, ultimately making her the leader of the team. Such a decision conflicted with editor Mark Gruenwald ‘s plans of characterizing Captain America as the competent leader of the group. Gruenwald planned to portray Captain America as a more efficient leader than Captain Marvel, a decision that Stern refused to perform, leading him to abandon the Avengers book in issue #287, Subsequent writers followed Gruenwald’s suggestions and Captain Marvel was depicted as an unexperienced and limited leader. The character was eventually written off of the book in issue #294, Tragically, the original allegory for the character explored how a black woman found herself unable to level her rank up as a Harbor Patrol Officer despite of her competence, but met recognition and equity with the Avengers. However, in the end, she turned out to be underestimated in the Avengers as well. Rambeau has changed her codename twice because of Genis-Vell, the son of the original Captain Marvel. Accepting that Genis-Vell had rights over his father’s legacy as Captain Marvel, Rambeau adopted the name Photon. After Genis-Vell began going by Photon, Rambeau contemplated calling herself Pulsar. A photon ( FOH-ton) is an elementary particle corresponding to a quantum of light or any other type electromagnetic radiation. The codename was chosen by Rambeau for being considered well-suited to define her abilities. The name was mocked once by Aaron Stack, who defined it as an insignificant and undetectable particle. Pulsar ( PUHL-sahr) stands for “pulsating radio source” and designate compact stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation out of their magnetic poles. Rambeau contemplated adopting Pulsar as her super-hero name, although she has never been effectivelly referred to by it. The name spectrum ( SPEK-trəm) refers to the electromagnetic spectrum, i.e. the range of frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. The name, similarly to “photon”, is a direct reference to Rambeau’s power set, which includes the ability to convert her body mass into any frequency of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum. Spectrum was once considered to be an Alpha-Level Threat by Captain America (Sam Wilson) and Tony Stark,

Was Monica Rambeau controlled by Wanda?

Town Committee Meeting – Geraldine is introduced to Wanda Maximoff Once she was trapped inside the Westview Anomaly, Rambeau, having been mind-controlled by Wanda Maximoff, took on the identity of a woman named Geraldine. Who does Monica become after WandaVision?

Monica is a superhero now – Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau in Wandavision Marvel Studios Young Monica Rambeau dreamed about glowing like her mom’s best friend Carol in Captain Marvel, Now she can. Wanda’s Hex imbued Monica (Teyonah Parris) with powers—unlike other characters, she moved through the border of the Hex three times.

What, exactly, her powers are remains a bit unclear. In the comics, Monica has operated as a superhero under the names Spectrum and Photon. In the final episode, one of the shape-shifting Skrull aliens introduced in the first Captain Marvel movie approaches Monica and tells her that an “old friend” of Captain Marvel’s would like to have a word with her.

When Monica asks where this friend is, the Skrull points upwards. Likely, the alien is referring to Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), Captain Marvel’s enemy-turned-ally in that movie. Talos was last seen impersonating Samuel L. Jackson’s Agent Fury on earth in Spider-Man: Far From Home, while Fury worked to build a space station to deter extraterrestrial threats.

Who does Monica in WandaVision become?

WandaVision is setting Monica up to become Photon. – Why Did Monica Marvel Studios Of all her past alter-egos, the one it makes the most sense for Monica to fully become within the MCU is Photon. Obviously there’s already a Captain Marvel in Carol Danvers, and Monica was a part of her origin story. The name Photon already holds sentimental value for Monica in WandaVision, as we saw in Episode 4 that her “Photon” was a nickname of her late mother, Maria, who was the founder of S.W.O.R.D.

  1. And a best friend to Carol Danvers.
  2. In the comics, Monica changed her name to Photon after conceding the title of Captain Marvel to Genis-Vell, the son of Mar-Vell (the latter character played by Annette Bening in the first Captain Marvel film).
  3. We don’t think the WandaVision story is going to quite reach this point—but it would make a lot of sense if her hero name simply settled in at Photon.

Who was the girl at the end of WandaVision?

WandaVision: What happened to Agatha Harkness? – Was it Agatha, all along? Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha also survives WandaVision, depending on how you look at it. Literally and physically, Agatha Harkness is still alive at the end of the series. She fights it out with Wanda for most of the episode, trying to steal the Scarlet Witch’s powers for her own dark (albeit still somewhat nebulous) purposes.

  • She loses that battle, thanks to inadvertently teaching Wanda how to prevent another witch from casting magic; in this way, Agatha meets the comic books’ version of Agatha, who is sometimes Wanda’s rival, but also sometimes her mentor.
  • Big “why not both?” energy.
  • When the dust settles, Wanda disarms Agatha by reverting her back into Agnes, the nosy neighbor in all of her exaggerated winky glory.

Agnes has no apparent memory of her life as Agatha, though a return to that old form is very much on the table. Wanda tells Agatha that if she ever needs her, “I know where to find you.” Please, for the love of all things Feige, may these two meet again.

What does the end of WandaVision mean?

WandaVision finale explained: How end-credit, mid-credit scenes set up Doctor Strange 2 and Captain Marvel 2 WandaVision streamed its finale on Friday. Like many final episodes of popular TV shows, it has divided audiences. The finale resolved the inner conflict of Wanda against herself, mental trauma and grief.

  1. It was earlier revealed that Westview was created by Wanda herself as a means to cope with Vision’s death.
  2. She had known only tragedy all her life and had turned into a damaged human being.
  3. She needed therapy, but instead she chose to create this fantasy sitcom world (except unlike most fantasies, this one was real) in which she was living her life in marital bliss in a suburb setting based on classic sitcoms.

Wanda defeated Agatha Harkness, a very powerful witch who was living in Westview and made her entry in the show as a nosy neighbour. Wanda had to destroy Westview as she had held thousands of people hostage, and they were undergoing mental torture due to being forced to play sitcom characters and populate the town.

  • But destroying Westview meant that she also had to let go of her sons and Vision, as their existence was tied to the world.
  • In the penultimate episode, Agatha had called Wanda the Scarlet Witch, a being who is destined to destroy the earth and who was considered a myth.
  • While Wanda initially denied this, she embraced the role before the end.

Agatha, before Wanda turned her into her character of nosy neighbour, warned that Wanda has done a very dangerous thing and warned of dire consequences. She also said that Scarlet Witch was mentioned in Darkhold, the Book of the Damned, the most dangerous text related to magic in Marvel Comics.

  1. Also Read | What does all that mean? Wanda is now Scarlet Witch, and she can turn into her true form whenever she wishes.
  2. This means that she is likely the most powerful person on the planet.
  3. Agatha claimed she was stronger than even Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme, who is considered to be the greatest practitioner of magic on earth.

Wanda’s new role may also create new problems. One of these could be a rift in the fabric of reality — opening of the multiverse in other words. To introduce X-Men and Fantastic Four to MCU, showing the existence of multiverse would be a simple way. Why Did Monica Wanda is her Scarlet Witch costume. (Photo: Marvel Studios) Multiverse will not spew out only superheroes, it may also allow the introduction of nefarious forces like Chthon, a demonic Elder God who is straight out of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu lore. Thanos would probably fall at the feet of Chthon, who is the master of Dark and Chaos Magic.

In comics, he had possessed Scarlet Witch, leading to terrifying results. She was eventually freed by Doctor Strange. Is Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness going to explore that? That Wanda is still not completely a force for good is clear. She is a good person, but she is still to come to terms with her grief.

Wandavision Monica Rambeau Powers Explained – More Powerful Than Captain Marvel

It is premature to assume that just because she let Vision and her sons go, she is now a-okay. We saw in the end-credits that while Wanda is just making tea, Scarlet Witch, which is probably Wanda’s astral form, is perusing the Book of the Damned. Her purpose is to bring back her children and Vision, and indeed we hear the cry of the twins, indicating that they are alive somewhere, in some other universe or dimension.

What did Wanda hear at the end of WandaVision?

This story contains spoilers for “WandaVision” Episode 9. It was good while it lasted. The ninth and final episode of ” WandaVision,” aptly titled “The Series Finale,” brought the storyline of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision’s (Paul Bettany) magical domestic life together to a close — but not before a climactic battle involving various powerful beings and a heavily armed government organization.

  1. It was a clash the Disney+ original series had been building toward for weeks after nosy neighbor Agnes was revealed to be enchanted interloper Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and S.W.O.R.D.
  2. Director Hayward’s (Josh Stamberg) real motivations became clear.
  3. But in true Marvel Cinematic Universe fashion, the end was just the beginning.

The “WandaVision” finale features two post-credits scenes that set up what’s next for a couple of the show’s heroes. Why Did Monica Monica Rambeau’s (Teyonah Parris), right, story is just beginning. (Chuck Zlotnick / Marvel Studios) Mid-credits scene: Monica Rambeau As the fallout from the showdown in Westview is being cleared up, S.W.O.R.D. Captain Monica Rambeau is called into a theater where a woman — who reveals she is Skrull — delivers a message from an old friend of her mother’s.

And this friend wants to meet up with Monica in space. The Skrulls are the shape-shifting alien race that played a key part in ” Captain Marvel,” the 2019 film that introduced a young Monica and her mother, Maria Rambeau, to the MCU. A couple of them were also seen in ” Spider-Man: Far From Home ” (2019), and they are expected to be a central part in Marvel’s upcoming “Secret Invasion” series.

A post-credits scene in “Far From Home” reveals that Nick Fury, who also appeared in “Captain Marvel,” has set up shop in a space station that fans at the time assumed was a hint that S.W.O.R.D. would eventually make its MCU debut. Could Fury be this “old friend”? It’s already been confirmed that Monica will be reunited with Carol Danvers in the upcoming “Captain Marvel 2,” so it’s only a matter of time before we learn more about this meeting and the newly-superpowered Monica’s future. Why Did Monica (Marvel Studios) Post-credits scene: Wanda the Scarlet Witch After taking down the Hex and saying goodbyes to Vision and their twins, Wanda has settled in a secluded cabin in the mountains. But once again, not everything is as it seems. Earlier in the episode, Agatha tells Wanda “there’s an entire chapter devoted to in the Darkhold” and that her “power exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme.” Now Wanda, who’s set on understanding her power, has taken possession of “the book of the damned” to do some homework.

In the comics, the Darkhold is an old book of powerful dark magic generally associated with Chthon, an old god who is also known for being the source of Chaos Magic. The book has previously appeared in Marvel TV shows including “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Runaways.” And it appears Wanda’s studies are paying off, because there are two of her in the cabin.

In the post-credits scene, one Wanda, in full Scarlet Witch regalia, is shown reading the Darkhold (while flexing some magical might) when she hears the voices of her twin sons call out to her for help. Billy and Tommy were last seen in the episode getting tucked in by Wanda and Vision before the alternate reality within Westview was dissolved away for good. Why Did Monica Will “WandaVision’s” Billy (Julian Hilliard), left, and Tommy (Jett Klyne) return? (Marvel Studios) Viewers see Vision disappear as the couple shares one final moment, but what happens to Billy and Tommy is not shown. With Wanda set to appear in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” could this mean Billy and Tommy will also return? Billy and Tommy’s comic book counterparts are members of a next-gen superhero team known as the Young Avengers.

Other members of the team include Kate Bishop (who will be introduced in the “Hawkeye” series), Cassie Lang (who has already appeared in the “Ant-Man” films and will return in the upcoming “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”) and America Chavez, a dimension-hopping hero who will debut in the “Doctor Strange” sequel.

The only thing that’s certain is not even Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme himself, will be a match for Wanda if the fate of her children are on the line. What about the other Vision? While Wanda’s Vision is gone, the S.W.O.R.D.-reconstructed Vision is still out there somewhere, now with access to his previous memories.

How is Monica Rambeau in WandaVision?

Monica Rambeau Superhero Powers – What to Know About the New Hero Photon in WandaVision For all of the horrors in the newest episode of WandaVision — Wanda’s twins going missing, a, and the —you might’ve forgotten that we saw a whole damn superhero origin story.

One for none other than Monica Rambeau, who’s played by Teyonah Parris in the show. Other than setting up a third act that’ll have massive MCU consequences, Episode Seven of WandaVision might have just set up Rambeau for a future as a big-ticket superhero. In a Modern- reminiscent episode, Rambeau sets out to just.

drive a very large truck into the Hex. When the Hex quite literally spits out the vehicle, Rambeau figures it easier to just get out and waltz right in. But it’s not that easy. As she forces her way in, we see her body split and glow, with something clearly happening to her.

  1. When she finally enters the Hex, her eyes start glowing blue. So yeah.
  2. Something definitely happened.
  3. Let’s get you up to speed on what the comics say are in store for Rambeau’s future.
  4. First of all, remember that Kevin Feige that this is the same Monica Rambeau we met in Captain Marvel as a bright-eyed child.

In the comics, though, she grows up to have superpowers of her own, fighting alongside Carol Danvers as a hero named Photon. As with every other Marvel hero nowadays, her main powers include shooting energy out of her hands. While in the comics, it’s an extra-dimensional weapon that gives Rambeau her powers, it looks like the MCU had slightly different plans.

Is Monica more powerful than Wanda?

Could Monica Beat Wanda? – Why Did Monica With the escalation of tensions between Vision and Scarlet Witch almost leading to a fight, it’s hard to say if it will come down to Monica going toe to toe with Scarlet Witch. There are a lot of factors to consider when having two heroes with very different power sets going head to head, and context — such as whether such a fight occurred in Westview, where Wanda’s powers are more pronounced — would have an impact on the outcome of such a struggle.

  • If such a comparison is to be made, it needs to be made on a power-against-power basis, without any question of who started the fight or who got in the first strike.
  • As Wanda does not have perfect perception, Monica could easily enter or leave a fight by turning into energy and moving at the speed of her energy form.

When Wanda took Vision’s body from S.W.O.R.D,, she demonstrated that her kinetic abilities were more pronounced, indicating that she still has considerable power outside of the Hex, however, and Monica can still fall prey to Wanda’s telepathic control.

Wanda is trained with the use of her powers — Monica would still find her own newly acquired abilities unfamiliar and possibly unwieldy. On the basis of speed, Monica is more likely to get in a deciding blow faster, but with a twin brother with super-speed, Wanda is accustomed to dealing with speedsters.

Ultimately, the best way to find out will be to tune into WandaVision and see what happens. Next: Marvel Can Pick The Best Bits Of The X-Men Movies To Improve MCU Canon
